Born from Knowledge (BfK) is a programme which values scientific and technological knowledge promoted by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education, through the ANI.

The BfK Programme currently integrates the following activities:

BfK Ideas looks for the best business idea from each Portuguese HEI, aimed at creating products, processes or services “born from knowledge”. All of the ideas have the possibility to benefit from an immersion programme and represent your institution in a national contest

This is a distinctionawarded by the National Innovation Agency (ANI) in one of the most prestigious innovation contest and/or awards in Portugal.
Since its launch in 2016, 43 business ideas from 130 students and researchers have been put into practice;
These projects have already resulted in innovative products, services and technologies, some of which have already been internationalised and carry our national knowledge across borders.
Since its launch in 2017, 22 BfK Awards have been awarded to 13 projects, 6 startup's and 3 innovative products;
All received, among other prizes, the “Tree of Knowledge” sculpture, a work by Leonel Moura.
