Create an effective product in the fight against antibiotic resistant bacteria; develop a software that is can turn nano-images into 3D images; procure a food that can control diseases of aquaculture fish; use software to help skating athletes train better. These were the four ideas awarded in the third edition of the science and technology-based business ideas contest, BfK Ideas, which pitted the best projects from public higher education institutions in the country up against one another. For the winners, the prize is an acceleration programme in science and technology over three months.

Winning BfK Team’s Ideas 2018:

 

  1. Project TopoSEM, from theUniversity of Minho (“Advanced Production Materials and Technologies” category: development of a software capable of transforming nano-images into 3D images;
  2. Project PurAvTec – IgY Purification Technologies, from theUniversity of Aveiro (“Health” category): development of an effective product in the fight against antibiotic resistant bacteria.
  3. Project Figure Follow, from the Lisbon Polytechnic Institute (“Tourism & Creative Industries” category): development of a software that improves performance in skating athletes’ training, namely in making geometric figures in the rink;
  4. Project SNACk for fish, from theUniversity of Porto (“Agro-Food Industry” category): development of a food that helps control the appearance of diseases in aquaculture fish.
