The Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy of the European Commission (DG REGIO) is looking for external experts to review applications for the 2023 edition of the New European Bauhaus (NEB) Prizes. Applications are open until January 31st, 2023.

This call is open for the interested external experts who are able to assess the applications from the perspective of three areas based on the core values of the New European Bauhaus:

  1. sustainability (as environmental sustainability, including climate issues, circularity, biodiversity, etc.);
  2. aesthetics and quality of experience (design, arts, culture, architecture, etc.);
  3. inclusion (equal opportunities, public participation, citizen involvement, co-design, universal design, accessibility, affordability).

The call is also addressed to experts able to assess the applications from an educational point of view (for strand C 'New European Bauhaus Education Champions').

The call is open to those with professional training and/or experience in at least one of the areas mentioned above, and for the purposes of selecting experts, priority will be given to those with relevant training and/or experience in at least two of the areas mentioned.

Among the experts selected to review the prize applications, some will be selected to be members of the panel that will review the prize finalists' applications and make recommendations to the Commission Evaluation Committee.

The NEB prizes 2023 is divided into three strands:

  • A: New European Bauhaus Champions, for existing and recently completed projects with clear and positive results;
  • B: New European Bauhaus Rising Stars, for ideas and concepts submitted by young talents aged 30 or less, where concepts can be at different stages of development, from an idea with a clear plan or a prototype;
  • C: New European Bauhaus Education Champions, for initiatives with a focus on education and learning, where both completed projects and those with a minimum level of maturity are eligible.

In each strand, prizes will be awarded in four categories:

  • Reconnecting with nature;
  • Regaining a sense of belonging;
  • Prioritising the places and people that need it the most;
  • Shaping a circular industrial ecosystem and supporting life-cycle thinking.
