May 11th, 9.30 a.m., ALGATEC

ANI, in partnership with A4F, S.A - Algae for Future, are organising an information session dedicated to funding opportunities under the 2023 call for proposals of the 'Circular Bio-based Europe’ (CBE JU) Partnership. This event will take place on May 11th, from 09.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m., at the ALGATEC Eco-Business Park, in Póvoa de Santa Iria.

The Joint Undertaking for a Circular Bio-based Europe (CBE JU) is an institutionalised Horizon Europe (HE) partnership between the European Union and the European Bio-Based Industries Consortium, BIC, which funds projects promoting competitive circular bio-based industries in Europe. It operates according to HE rules and builds on the successes achieved by the Horizon 2020 (H2020) Bio-Based Industries Joint Undertaking (BBI JU).

Between 2014 and 2020 (H2020), Portugal raised about EUR 13 million (M€) in the 26 projects retained for funding under the BBI JU, of which 4 were coordinated by national entities - Globaz, with the BIOBRIDGES and LIFT projects; A4F, with the MULTI-STR3AM project; and AVIPE - Associação de Vinicultores do Conselho de Palmela, with the REDWine project.

This initiative, which includes a guided visit to ALGATEC, will be attended by Virginia Puzzolo, Head of Programme of CBE JU, who will present the partnership and the novelties of the 2023 call, the conditions for participation and assessment, as well as guidelines on how to prepare a successful proposal. There will also be a panel where participants will have the opportunity to network and discuss with national stakeholders how they should get involved and benefit from this partnership.

The session is dedicated to all types of stakeholders of bio-based value chains, namely primary production and processing companies, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), Universities and research institutes, Technology and Innovation Centres (TIC) and Collaborative Laboratories (CoLAB).

This session will be in English.

Registration is free but mandatory.

In the 1st CBE JU call (2022 call), Portugal submitted 42 proposals, of which 5 were retained for an overall funding of EUR 117.22 million (M€), corresponding to 2.3% of the available budget.

The Horizon CBE JU 2023 Call, with 18 topics and an overall budget of EUR 215.5 million (M€), will open on April 26th until September 20th. An Info Day & Brokerage Event is being organised on April 20th in Brussels, in a face-to-face and online format, where it will be possible to ask questions through an online tool and interact with other potential applicants on the CBE JU networking platform.

The European Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC) is at the basis of defining the actions included in the annual work programmes of the CBE JU. The BIC consortium already includes the Portuguese companies A4F, S.A. and Biotrend, S.A. (industry full members); the CeNTI and the RAIZ (associate members).
