Term will end on June 30th, 2022

Portugal took over the Chairmanship of the EUREKA Network, the largest public global network in R&D and innovation, on July 1st, 2021. The term will end on June 30th, 2022.

The strategy behind the new Portuguese Chairmanship will be guided by the motto: "Innovation for a Greener, Digital and Healthier Planet through a collaborative approach". The main goals will involve the focus on the enhancement of the global reach of the EUREKA Network, in the Atlantic Region and the collaboration with countries in Africa and Latin America, in the improvement of the network's R&D cooperation instruments, in the strengthening of its international position and in the valorization of the Eureka seal.

This is the third time that Portugal, a founding member of the EUREKA Network in 1985, takes over its Chairmanship. The network is currently present in over 45 countries and makes investigation and industry work together towards the development of new projects, processes and market-oriented services, by using a flexible and dynamic "bottom-up" model.

The new Portuguese Chairmanship of the EUREKA Network chronologically follows the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the EU, which ended on June 2021, and overlaps with the Portuguese Copresidency of the European Space Agency (ESA) on a ministerial level, also during the year 2021. The aim is for these moments to result in unique synergies towards the promotion of new programmes and activities under the EUREKA Network.
