Consultation period ends on June 3rd

Under the current financial programming period, the European Commission has launched a public consultation on the fitness of state aid rules, at the national and European level, towards Research, Development and Innovation (R&D&I) activities. 

This public consultation has the following goals:

1. Updating and improving the definitions of eligible R&I activities, mainly related to digital technologies and digital transition;
2. Extending the scope of public support to technology infrastructures, such as testing laboratories, which facilitate the innovation developed by SMEs;
3. Simplifying certain rules, such as the methodology for calculating indirect costs, which alleviate the administrative burden on beneficiaries.

The aim of this initiative is to simplify public support for R&D&I, including support for SMEs, while promoting an alignment with the new strategic priorities of the European Union, such as the European Green Deal and the EU Digital Strategy.
