Portuguese entities secure more than 9M€ in funding in call to support the European Green Deal
The first results of the call to support the European Green Deal, covering only half of the topics in the contest, have just been announced. This is a cross-cutting call under the Horizon 2020 Program, with a global budget of 1000 million euros, focusing on large demonstration projects that bring solutions to the market and which aim to support the European Green Deal, one of the 6 priorities of the European Commission for the 2019-24 period.
There were 127 proposals with the participation of Portuguese entities (with 277 participations), 8 of which were approved (with 14 participations), resulting in an average success rate of about 6%. These 8 approved proposals secured 9.2M €, out of a total of 544.9M € of allocated funding (1.68%). Portugal had a particularly good performance in the areas of offshore renewables and mobility (ports and airports).
These first results show the participation of several national companies, such as LABELEC SA, IRRADIARE LDA, CNET SA, WILDTRIUMPHS LDA, SONAE, CAPWATT SA. Regarding research institutions, INESC-TEC stands out with an overall financing in excess of 3 million euros, closely followed by WAVEC. As for higher education institutions, the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon and IST stand out. It is also worth mentioning the participation of APS (Administration of Ports of Sines and Algarve) and Magellan.
The Commission is expected to publish the full results of this call by the middle of May.
